Christians of America: Draw Your Line in the Sand
May 18, 2001
My brothers and sisters, it is time for us to make some serious decisions. The decisions we make today will determine whether or not our children and grandchildren will grow up in a land of freedom and opportunity. We grew up in such a land because of the decisions and sacrifices made by our Christian forebears. Now it is up to us. If we take the easy path, the path of least resistance, Christian liberty will be lost. We cannot shirk our duty; the security and happiness of future generations is in the balance. We will either be true to our hearts and to our convictions now, or forever live with the enigma of being the generation that squandered this once great Christian republic. The line must be drawn in the sand; and it must be drawn today! Tomorrow will be too late.
We must, I repeat, we must immediately cease from supporting political candidates on the basis that they are the lesser of two evils! This philosophy is searing our conscience and corrupting our character! There is no such thing as "lesser" evil. There is only good and evil. The great issues facing our families are not political ones; they are moral and spiritual ones. To compromise them is to deny God. This we cannot do.
God has no loyalty to any political party; neither should we. Parties are the inventions of men, usually used for the benefit of a powerful elite. As Christians, our loyalty is due but one: Jesus Christ. How dare we put any political party ahead of our duty to Christ and to Biblical principles? This is not pragmatism; it is paganism.
We must also come to an understanding as to what it is that is worth fighting for. Maybe we need to ask ourselves if ANYTHING is worth fighting for. Have material prosperity and the love of soft living stolen our hearts and sheathed our swords? After having fought the good fight for freedom and independence, are we now content to lick the boots of would-be tyrants because they feed us well? God forbid.
It seems to me that if Christians can unite and fight for anything, they should be able to unite and fight for the right of unborn babies to live, for the right of free men to keep and bear arms, for the freedom to live in a moral society, and for the independence and sovereignty of our nation. These are the principles America's Christians must unite and fight for. This means if pastors won't fight for these principles, change churches. If politicians won't fight for these principles, vote them out of office. If political parties won't fight for these principles, change parties. It also means Christian businessmen must put these principles before profits. Our Christian forebears were willing to sacrifice their lives and fortunes to procure these liberties. How can we then refuse to be faithful to the sacred trust that now beckons?
These are the decisions that must be made. Christians of America, search your hearts. Your conscience bears witness to the truth of what I say today. Shake off the dust of political pragmatism. Remove the coat of indifference. Renounce the heresy of "incrementalism." Bow not before the god of prosperity. Put on the armor of Jehovah; and draw your line in the sand.
