It's The Mammon, Stupid!

"Man cannot serve two masters. He will hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon." Matthew 6:2,3

It's the economy and prosperity that counts!” is heard loudly as we move towards election day. Perhaps our political leaders have been acting as they think we want them to; serving wealth and pleasure instead of God. So, why are we angry with them? They are giving us what we demand just as Moses' brother, Aaron, offered sacrifice to the golden calf when the people cried for it.

Even as the economy appears to have improved over the last few years for many, though not all, we have witnessed the increase of abortion and the incredible sanctioning of partial birth abortion by the Supreme Court, the rise of illegal trafficking in fetal body parts, ongoing pressure to become an organ donor to provide for organ transplantations and the harvesting of the dead for profit.

Our culture has steadily been declining into materialistic hedonism, and our “leaders” have been faithfully following us down. We are witnessing the fruits of serving the gods of power, possessions and pleasure. It's not a pretty picture.

The poor, the weak and the vulnerable have become the victims of this false religion. The individual person is expendable in our day. Pope John Paul II speaks urgently and incessantly about the respect due to each precious person made in God's image and likeness. Thomas Jefferson stated that a society will be judged by how its weakest members are treated.

After long, tiring years in the battle against death without much to show for their sacrifices, pro-lifers may feel isolated and uncertain about the path to take.

The calls to compromise on the Life principle are everywhere. The “lesser of two evils” is presented as the best course.

We forget that it has always been dark and lonely for those who refused to bend on principle and they are now called “heroes” and “saints”. We forget that this battle is between princes and principalities. We forget that God doesn't bless evil, no matter how “lesser” it is. Let us remember!

Let us stand strong and not waver! Let us fight on and on and on and on -- until God Himself calls us home. !
