3. What is your position on using taxpayer funds for research that involves destroying live human embryos to obtain their cells for experimentation (embryonic stem cell research)?
· Searer (C): Oppose.
· Klink (D): Oppose. Since 1996, there has been a prohibition on federal funds going to research in which a human embryo is destroyed. I supported that prohibition when it passed and continue to support the prohibition today. I have already taken steps to protect this prohibition by voting against the Lowey amendment, which would have stricken this language, and in the future I will continue to support efforts to require compliance with the law.
